I stayed with Jean and Barry in their lovely Wasilla home for two weeks this summer. My father joined me for the first week and we stayed in the two downstairs rooms. It was quite private and we had our own big screen TV, microwave and refrigerator. We loved spending breakfast with Jean, Barry and their beautiful black labs. The breakfast was hearty and they were very accommodating to any special requests we had. The location is a great base for exploring all that south central Alaska has to offer. If you are looking for value, cleanliness, and great hospitality, this is the place to stay.

I initially picked to stay at Warsilla because the price was better than B&B in Anchorage, and we did get a great stay. Barry and Jean were originally from Arizona and they had a wonderful house with lots of space. The rooms were all very welcoming and looked better than the pictures they had online. Since we were the only guests that day, Barry and Jean let us pick which 2 rooms we wanted. I had the grown up cowboy room and the beds were very comfortable and clean. We stayed at the lower level of the house and it was not cold at all. We had a frig, microwave, coffee brewer, desk and chairs to eat on, and a nice big family room. The bathroom is just amazing and I loved it, the tub is perfect for a relaxing bath (which I didn't do). Barry and Jean kept their dogs away from us. If you are afraid of the dogs, you have no worries. We had a hearty breakfast and watched the dogs play outside. Barry and Jean talked to us for awhile and gave us many good tips about what to do in AK. One thing to pay attention is that Lucille Rd ends at Schrock Rd, but Schrock rd. does not have a sign on it. We had to call Barry to make sure we were close (which was my fault for not writing down the directions step-by-step).

We didn't want to drive from Denali to Valdez in a day, so looked for a place roughly midway between the two. Checked TripAdvisor and found several options. Checked the website for each, and decided to inquire first at A Wayside B&B. Was traveling with a buddy and liked that this was a B&B that guys could definitely feel comfortable with.||||The website's depiction of the property is accurate. We shared the "Growin' Up Cowboy" room with two double beds. The common areas are comfortable - big sofas and chairs, large HD television with satellite, refrigerator to keep beers cold, etc. Bathroom very spacious and clean.||||Liked that it was off the Parks Highway (aka the main drag through Wasilla) and located in a quiet neighborhood on the edge of town. Easy to locate with the directions on the website.||||Jean was extremely friendly and cooked us a great breakfast. Also met the two black labs...which was great, as I was ending a three week trip in Alaska and was missing my two labs back home. (If you're not a "dog person" don't worry, they are kept away from the guest areas of the home.) Didn't get a chance to meet Barry as he was away on a caribou hunt. Like I said, this is a B&B that guys can feel very comfortable booking! ||||I would wholeheartedly endorse a stay at A Wayside B&B based on our experience. Jean and Barry have a nice home and offer travelers a tremendous value if you check them out.
