Last week we had a 3 night stay at the Butterfield "Rosebud Cottage" and couldn't be more pleased with our choice. The cottage was charming and surprisingly large. Our breakfasts were so imaginative, delicious, and filling to the point that we never ate a lunch for our 3 days in Julian. This inn is located in the foothills less than a mile outside of town, and it's in such a rustic area that my wife spotted a foursome of wild turkeys while on an after-breakfast walk. But what impressed us the most were the innkeepers, Dawn & Ed. We were immediately made to feel as friends, rather than as guests. They joined us at the large dining table after each breakfast, and we just chatted about local restaurants, our families, apple pies, personal histories, music, etc. They truly adore each other AND running this B&B. We arrived as guests, but left as friends. We are already discussing our next visit to the Butterfield and to chat once again with our good friends, Dawn & Ed. (I only wish it was possible to give them 6 Stars.)

Stayed at the Butterfield B&B for four nights and had an exceptional time. Dawn’s breakfast every morning was excellent and we enjoyed chatting with them after breakfast in the comfort of their cozy dining room. The common spaces were well kept and inviting, perfect for board games and a glass of wine. The room had everything we needed and was very comfortable and tidy. I will be recommending this place to anyone who comes to Julian! Thank you Dawn and Ed for an amazing stay!

We had a lovely get away at Butterfield Bed and Breakfast. Ed and Dawn were very accommodating to our needs and wishes. It felt like we were going to a friend's house to visit. The food was pretty amazing! Stuffed French toast, pinwheel orange, and the homemade artichoke frittata was amazing with Dawn's homemade sweet salsa on top with the right amount of sweetness just topped everything off. The Rose Bud cottage was like an apartment. The bed was comfortable and the shower provided good pressure for an enjoyable shower

I stayed one night and it was absolutely wonderful! The room was cozy and very well furnished and stocked. The fireplace in the room with complementary firewood was very nice too since the weather was very cold.
The bed was huge and extremely comfortable!

Breakfast was lovely, we had poached pears, bacon, and banana stuffed French toast which was fantastic. Coffee was quite good too.
The owners, Dawn and Ed were excellent hosts and we had such a great time talking with them during breakfast! Will definitely come again!

Absolutely loved this darling cozy place. The couple who own this bed and breakfast are the most amazing, friendly, sweet and charming couple we've ever met. We had a ball trying to play the piano lol. The breakfast was out of this world! Thank you for making my Birthday weekend special. We will be back...

This place is in need of TLC , food wasn’t made with ❤️ Love! Our room was in need of some updating, very old decor and not very inviting ! The couple were nice but they talk to much ! I was there to relax with hubby ! The grounds weren’t very inviting need of landscaping couldn’t take pics very embarrassed! This place should be resdy to retire or of new remodeling or ownership. It just wasn’t my cup of Tea. I been to very beautiful places and this one wasn’t like my home !! Sorry

The bed and breakfast is located in a beautiful neighborhood. The rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated. Bathroom amenities were nicer than many 5 star hotels. Beautiful updated bathroom with large shower. Private entrances to each room. Large windows and an extremely comfy bed. Enjoyed Happy Hour in the gazebo. Breakfast was superb- oranges with a fruit compote, baked pancakes and sausage. Lots of games, movies, books available. The proprietors are extremely careful with Covid-19 cleaning protocols. Definitely will stay there again. Ample things to do in the area from shopping in the quaint town of Julian to hiking. Plus the Apple Pie is sinfully delicious from any of the shops which offer it.

We stayed with Ed and Dawn for two days in September and again in October. We loved the Country Corner on our first visit. A charming room with windows on two sides that lets in wonderful light during the day. The green and cream color theme is soothing and happy. The queen bed is comfy. This room is just a few steps away from the breakfast room/lobby. We appreciated the thoughtful touches. The bath towels are wonderfully soft and there's a basket of washcloths, not just two. There's a ring holder, bathrobes, a tiny coffeemaker, and bubblebath (loved taking a hot bubblebath). My husband forgot his toothbrush and toothpaste on our first visit, which Dawn immediately provided. Breakfast was amazing both days. A frittata and poached pear, then hearty pancakes and an orange dish. I don't eat meat and they served us delicious vegetarian sausage.||||For our second visit we chose the Apple Sweet. This room has a king bed, a sitting area, a fireplace, and a window seat that has a view down the hill. The weather was warm, so we didn't need a fire. The same thoughtful amenities are provided. Love those soft towels! This room has a curved path that leads up to the breakfast/lobby area. Breakfasts were again amazing.||||There's a frig in the breakfast area with tea and coffee service - and cookies. Part of the room is a sitting area with a fireplace, and what looks like a million books, CD's, and DVD's. We ignored the TV in our rooms during both stays and did alot of reading in our rooms and in the breakfast/lobby area.||||Ed and Dawn are welcoming and we immediately felt at home with them. They live next door and are available by cell if they're not at home. On our second visit, we felt like we'd returned to our home away from home. They're located a few minutes easy drive from the main town of Julian. The wooded hillside was an easy walk with blessedly only a few cars that was a welcome contrast to the crazy traffic on our hill at home. This is a quiet and peaceful place to get away from the city.
