This place is now JUNK! It pains me to say it. This was my ‘go to’ halfway stay for a trip I’ve had to make at least a half dozen times over the past five years. The previous owner was so kind and considerate. The rooms weren’t new, but the owner made every effort to make your stay pleasant. He lowered the rate for return customers. Made a point of offering Turner Classic Movies on the TV, because “the Old Ranchers like it.” The old owner offered two horse stalls free of charge if you needed them. I did use them several times. Because I’m not an old rancher, but I am a gal who travels with horses to clinics sometimes.

But the last time I stayed this past August the desk clerk was rude and plainly didn’t give a shit about the comfort of his customers. It was late, I was too tired after a long drive and I needed to stop for the night. The room he gave me was dirty, had gross leftover food in the fridge and the TV didn’t work. When I requested a change, even though I could tell the place was mostly empty, he told me that was the only “pet room” they had. The previous owner happily allowed pets in any room. I travel with a well-behaved, house trained 7 lb.dog. The desk clerk this time knew it was late and I wouldn’t be able to find anyplace else. So he said no to a room change. He could tell I was distressed, but just looked coldly at me and said no because he knew I had no choice. The place was so gross I came close to sleeping in my car instead. The only thing this place had over staying in my car was that I could lie flat. I WILL NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN. I will plan my trip to avoid Alturas COMPLETELY.

Paid $92. for a tired room. Clean but old. TV is junk. I've been staying here for years. The motel has changed hands several times. The Basque restaurant, Brass Rail owns it now. They are taking advantage of the construction and highway work going on and jacked the price up. I stayed here last year and paid $48.
Forgot to mention you get a free drink ticket. I didn't get mine.

We stayed 6 nights at the quaint and clean motel while exploring the area wildlife and trails. We were in the Queen Kitchen suite. It was cozy but covered all our needs. The room was extremely clean and they are dog friendly. The grounds were great for walking and playing with our dog. Rebekah was always available by phone call and very helpful. I would recommend and will be staying again.

We had a quaint little room for the evening It did have a stove and all amenities which we did for Thanksgiving cuz we did not have a oven at home. Had a few small issues but nothing would prevent me from staying there again. Had a nice bathroom however the bathtub floor was very slippery could use some of those little sticky feet. We could not get anything on the TV which was something we were looking forward to for the evening. I guess the cable was out I'm not sure they couldn't figure it out either. The receptacle that the coffee machine was supposed to plug into would not accept the plug top or bottom probably needs to be replaced. And the hair dryer that my lady used in the bathroom pretty much is fried. Other than that it was great very quiet nobody bothered us I would stay there again.

I stayed here a couple years ago for work, and have thought of this place ever since! Wonderful views of the mountains, wonderful service, and a nice front porch to enjoy in the morning. Customer service was exceptional! If you want a retreat to relax and enjoy nature, this is the place!

BEWARE: If I could give a 0 I would. We paid for a room and on arrival after 7 hours drive no one came to reception even though we called ahead to say we are on our way. We arrived and tried to find someone at reception. There was “no one” we stayed and kept on calling for at least 10 minutes. Finally someone emerged only because she had to hand over something to a renter. Then she told us there was no room even though we had a reservation and prepaid for a room. Hiding and lack of customer service is appalling,
Do not reserve there.
There are other 1 stars about a similar issue so this is systemic.

Clean simple hotel room, with great coffee (more than 2 pods) and only one that had four towels in our room to begin with over the last 2 weeks of hotel stays, so nice not have go back to the front desk to ask for more towels. Fridge and microwave in rooms. Nice hotel grounds with local cats and kittens, friendly check in staff, limited operating hours. Would stay again.

The property is great, the people were great even though sadly they have just experienced a tragedy. I love the keurig in the room with plenty of pods.
I am handicapped so we stayed in the handicap room. The bathroom was a little tough but the beds were horribly soft, I woke achy.
