This visitor center is open in winter and spring. Very helpful and welcoming staff! In April there is still a lot of snow around. From visitor center you can walk to Sulfur Works, it's a 45 minutes walk in snow, snowshoes not needed.

Staff inside the visitor center were very friendly and let us know that paying the day use fee is "on your honor" during winter months. We had forgotten our National Park pass, so we had been concerned about needing to pay an extra $10. The restrooms were clean, and a historical movie was playing inside the museum. The gift shop is open every day, except Tuesday and Wednesday, when the visitor center is closed. On that Monday the cafe was closed, even though everything else was open. Good thing we brought our own sandwiches to eat, after playing in the snow!

Great visit to Lassen Volcanic National Park in the middle of May. Even though the road through the park was mostly closed we were able to see the sulfur springs and beautiful snow capped mountains.

Even though the rest of the park was closed for driving through this place was open and when they did close the restrooms were still open.
The staff was helpful with directions to hike through the snow to the Sulfer Works. Families with snow sledding behind the building and others were off on hikes.
The visitors center has a place to sit down, grav a bite to eat, shop, watch a video about the volcanic area, ask questions and enjoy the view.

Lots of snow still here on this side of the park as of 5/15/25. We were only able to drive up until the Sulphur Works parking lot.

I was there today while it was closed for the staff meeting from 11:30-2:30. I got there at 12:00 and had to wait around for 2.5 hours because I always buy a magnet everywhere I go. I just drove down the road and pulled off to the side because there's no phone service in the park. I then drove back in at 2:30. But inside there's the usual educational displays and 2 gift shops and a cafe. The Cafe and 2nd gift shop were closed, see pics for hours, but the 1st gift shop was open. The 2nd gift shop looked to had more souvenir options but I couldn't walk over to it. I got my magnet and off I went.

Very nice and helpful staff, average selection of stuff for sale. Watch your prices as some things are more than others with the only variation being color.

Great visitor center with wonderful guides. There are two stores, a cafeteria and a small museum. They offer guided activities such as a tour of Sulfur Works (highly recommended).
The opening hours of the visitor center and the cafeteria change seasonally and the website and Google maps may not be up to date. For example we visited on a Wednesday and expected the cafe to be closed, but it was open.
