Great location. Very very dusty. Wish the road in was paved but the area is awesome! Be prepared for the gravel road. It's not too rough but clouds of dust. The campground is next to the road so whenever a vehicle comes in...
Well worth the effort! Cinder Cone is incredible! ❤️

Pretty descent campgrounds. Each spot has a fire ring, garage bins with locking cover, and a picnic table. There are also many dry toilets and flushing toilets throughout the site.

The Butte Lake is just a short walk away and the Cinder Cone trailhead is within walking distance.

The only downside for this site is the 6 miles dirty road: you can expect to take 20 to 30 minutes depending on how fast you drive and you will most definitely need a car wash after the trip 😉

One of my most favorite campsites. Huge spaces but know there is no local water or sewage hook ups. Stars are incredibly. Walks nearby amazing.

Nice campground with decently sized campsites and shade. Very conveniently located near the lake, which many people were enjoying sitting by and swimming in. The lake is located right by the Cinder Cone trail, which is must do if you are a capable hiker (the home up is tough).
Campground was full, but people were respectful. Would visit again.

Clean bathrooms, lots of lake access, not crowded. Each site has a fire ring, bear box, and picnic table. Bathrooms are toilets and sinks only. Also a dish washing station, garbage and recycling. Quick walk to Butte Lake access, there is a public access area with bathrooms, picnic tables, and some fire rings. But you can keep walking back to more private/nature areas. Camp is just off the trail to Cinder Cone, and there are many other trails nearby.

Only 1 thing makes me dislike this campground: THE TERRIBLE GRAVEL ROAD that is six miles long from Highway 44 to the campground. Ugh! Hey California, pave the road! Otherwise, the campground itself is wonderful. There is no electricity in the bathrooms, but the bathrooms do have flush toilets and sinks (though no soap or showers). The camp is peaceful, and we loved camping among the giant trees with the sound of rustling pine needles. The camp hosts Jon and Cathy Little are EXTREMELY nice and helpful. Plus, as of June 2023 you are allowed to burn any wood that is already on the ground (not from a live tree). The camp is close to the lake and to the Cinder Cone trailhead. And again, except for the really bad gravel road, the camp is great and it's not too far from Lassen NP, Subway Cave, and more.

It is funny that Google is asking me to rate the rooms and the service for a remote campground like this! Haha! This campground is not for everyone. There are no hookups, I don't think there's even running water! But there is a lot of privacy, and a cool little lake. The hike to the cinder cone is short but quite steep. If you can do it, it's great!

Great campground with plenty of space at each site. (Room for 2 cars and 3 tents!) We has a blast and loved the easy distance to both Cinder Cone and Butte Lake. And we got to see a bear! (Fortunately on the other side of the lake!) The 6 mile dirt road in might deter some folks but we thought that was all to the good... maybe not so crowded!
