Camped here for the 2024 eclipse. Fabulous location with 4 minutes of totality.

Nice campground on a pretty lake. Several sites on the lake. Big woods setting.

Sites all have electric with some 50 amp. Good gravel sites. We reserved a site as early as possible just to get in. At the time of our stay it was $20 a night. Bathroom and shower facilities could use some updating.

New dump station, Yea!!

Several sites have been upgraded to full hookups and paved pads. Nice.

Limited hiking trails through the woods. Wildflowers were in bloom. Trail markings were sketchy. Take a map. Trail conditions needed work in places.

One downside...

The loop that we were in seemed to be the ONLY turnaround at the end of the park road. Since there is no entrance fee, any vehicle that gets this far into the park "just to see the campground" ends up driving though twice coming and going. Grrrrrrr....

Other than that, nice stop on our way to Florida.

We always like to stay at Red Hill State Park when we want to camp closer to home. The camp spots are mostly spacious with our 34ft trailer, 2 slide outs and canapy. Some spots are tight with trees too close for my comfort, so I know which ones we will fit in and have those written down in my notes.
The campground is nice and the people are respectful towards each other. Very kid friendly and the water is beautiful. Just wish they had a beach area..

We booked a camp site ahead of time and there was an issue with a double booking when we arrived. The camp host and local IDNR officer immediately got me another site that was better than the one I had booked and offered me a refund but I declined. They were friendly and helpful. The showers and bathrooms were nice and clean for a state park. I recommend this park for families or people just looking for a getaway.

I love nature parks this is a decent one.

Red Hills State Park is right off of Highway 50 in Lawrence County IL. It has one main trail that is split into three or four named sections. It has camping areas around the lake in the southern section ot the park and a few picnic areas in the northern section of the park. The road in the northern section is rough and the trail is difficult to follow in some places but the "scenic view" is amazing. There is a nearly two mile loop trail in the park, most of which is clear. You can't hear the Highway from inside the park, and the forests are lovely. It's cleaner than most parks I've been to in Southern IL including other state parks. Would go again and will.

A hidden gem just off of US 50. It is a wonderful park, with lots of picnic tables for that afternoon outing, with a beautiful lake and woods. Camping, hiking and fishing opportunities galore.

Red Hills is a nice park. This day we were here we ate at Harry Lee's Restaurant. Good food, nice view of the lake and reasonable prices.
