Stayed for 2 nights in the top suite with our family of 6 on vacation. We all loved this place! The home was built in the 1850's and has that old house charm. There were 4 beds in our suite and a full bathroom. The shower amazingly lasted for 5 of us to shower with full hot water.

The kitchen area is shared & we were able to use the fridge to store our food. They supply some pancake mix and awesome butterscotch mints too! We also used the back patio to eat on one night & loved the ambience. Be sure & check out the firefly's in the field west of the house at night. Our kids loved seeing them!

Check in is a cinch & locking up was easy too. We'd stay here again

I'm not sure what happened with the experience that the reviewer from Northern CA had. But we had a great experience! Okay, so there was no host to greet us, but we didn't expect that and it was fine. The key was left for us in the mailbox as was explained to us, along with a note with our room location. We understood that the pancake mix was provided for us to make our own breakfast but that wasn't a big deal to us. We were told everything to expect and things exceeded our expectations. ||||We loved staying in an older building with decor from over a century ago. The ceiling was a 12 foot ceiling which made the room a bit grand. The bakery even provided sourghum cookies every afternoon. They had a person clean every couple of days or so with new towels available. The location was better than we could have expected - just a few blocks north of the Temple and the whole Nauvoo experience. The beds were comfortable and the Inn was clean. The A/C works great and kept the place cool. Since we shared it with others, it got a bit cold for my wife but they had blankets ;-)...||||They had a guest book for anyone who stayed there to sign and we saw nothing but positive remarks from the last dozen or so people who stayed. The kitchen is a shared kitchen and we made some great friends with the other 2 families that were staying there. We are contemplating going back to Nauvoo in the next couple of years and will hopefully be able to stay at the White House Inn again!! ||||Was it luxurious - not really, but it was clean, comfortable, a great location, and I would recommend to anyone.

We stayed at the White House Inn in October, 2015. We stayed in the Young room, on the bottom floor. It was a great experience and location and we would probably stay here again, however, the house has its pros and cons. ||||Pros: Our room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The kitchen is a large room, even though it only has a table for four, with lots of pots, pans, and other kitchen necessities. Had we known how many pots/pans, etc. were there then we would have brought much of our own food and cooked their rather than paid to eat in town. Fully operational oven and standard-sized fridge. ||||Cons: When we were there the family upstairs brought all of their kids with them and you could hear them when it was time to wake up. It's not so much their fault as it is a reflection of the structure of the home. It is an old building and the noise travels between the walls. The family upstairs also filled the entire fridge with their own food, leaving very little room for us. Even though the kitchen is a big room, it would be awkward to have multiple guests in there at the same time. ||||Overall, I give it a 4/5 for two main reasons: (1) they did not have gluten-free pancakes available for my wife who has celiacs disease, and (2) we stayed there two nights and they didn't tidy up our room and leave us with towels on the second day. It's a great place to stay for families who want to enjoy beautiful Nauvoo without wanting to stay in Iowa.

Small kitchen! Especially for the number of people they say it can hold! We had 10 people but there are 16 beds. We couldn't fit in the kitchen to eat Thanksgiving dinner together. No living room, but a tiny bedroom upstairs with a couple of chairs in it. But otherwise a charming place. It was great fun being a block from the Temple! My sister says dealing with the owner was pleasant and professional.

We stayed with a group of 6 and had a wonderful experience. The staff was welcoming and helpful. All email inquiries were answered quickly. We stayed there on a friends recommendation that had stayed at the White House Inn 3 times and loved it. We will also return when we visit Nauvoo again. We had two soft beds and two firm beds. One caution, if you have a problem with stairs make sure you get one of the downstairs rooms. The White house is clean. The hot tub was great fun and there were plenty of towels. Lots of hot water for showers. There is a full sized refrigerator plus room for ice chests. The shared kitchen is small, but we made new friends with other guests while sharing the kitchen. It is in the middle of town with a grocery store within walking distance.

For a family of 8, this was the best place to stay economically and location wise. It is an old house and we've remodeled an old home so we understand how difficult it is to modernize an old house in small spaces. We went in Mid May and the crowds were minimal, temperatures were perfect and the home was to ourselves! ||||Good qualities: its right down town and the yard is excellent for children as just behind the house a small distance away it has a playground. There is a hot tub my children enjoyed and we loved having a barbecue available. It was so economical for a family of 8, where we watch expenditures because it is always more expensive with large groups. I appreciated that accommodation. They refill the cookie jar daily. They have a kitchen, which also saves quite a bit of money on food and there are not many places to eat in Nauvoo, surprisingly. I appreciated staying in an old home to get more of a Nauvoo experience. ||||Room for improvements: you get what you pay for. It may not be as nice as b&bs with three times the cost per night. There are things that need to be updated. The bedding is one of those. The sheets were so thin and they just felt old and unsanitary. I personally am just picky about sleeping in public beds. The beds were really hard. The kitchen was extreemly old. We fortunately had the home to ourselves, but if we had to share it it would have been stressful trying to stay quiet with those thin walls as sound travels easily. ||||Overall, I would recommend staying here with a large family. It is so much more economical and I feel the purpose in staying in Nauvoo is more about learning the history and building testimonies through that abundant sweet spirit than about the place you sleep. If it were just my husband and I, I probably wouldn't stay here. We recommend as a way of saving money in a decent place.

This is an old house that has been nicely remodeled into an inn. It does have an old house smell to it but the room was nice. We stayed in the Browning Room with 4 queen beds. Plenty of room for 3 adults and 5 kids. The bathroom is a little on the small side and the sink is free standing so it has no counter space for razor, makeup, etc. The air conditioner looked new but there was some damage to the wall below where the previous cooler had leaked. It is within walking distance to the temple (abt 3 1/2 blocks). The inn is on the main highway so there is a fair amount of vehicle traffic, this includes semi trucks which is annoying if your are trying to sleep in the morning. The room has white mini blinds which causes the room to be very bright way too early in the morning. The kitchen has pots, pans, dishes, etc. and pancake mix for breakfast along with a few things left from other visitors. We were the only ones staying this particular evening, which was nice. If the inn was full I think the kitchen would be very full if everyone was trying to fix food at the same time.

Overall it was a nice stay. Need to lower prices a bit. They're on the higher side and not as nice as others on the street. The breakfast advertised is just a make your own in the shared kitchen thing, which I really don't want to do on vaca, but some people like that. I would suggest they clean out used food between stays, however, and make sure the eggs are within their due date for the pancakes as well as keep fresh cookies on hand if they're going to advertise their bakery with them. We enjoyed the back patio and grassy area for the kids.
