The hospitality at Cherry Bear B&B is welcoming and thoughtful. Conversing with the owners is a delight. If you stay here, you will appreciate having a comfortable bed and a truly delicious breakfast. In addition you will enjoy seeing the home's historic details, such as the unique designs on the interior door casings and lintels.||We initially decided to stay at Cherry Bear B&B because of its ideal location. It is handy for those who are traveling from the north, south, east or west. The quiet small town of Mendota is a not far from Interstate 39 and to Interstate 80. After our initial stay, we decided that we will stay here on our regular trips from Minnesota to Ohio.

Four sisters and two husbands gathered and stayed here for a family celebration of sorts. We were incredibly pleased with everything about our visit. Carmen was an excellent and friendly hostess, serving us delicious breakfasts on beautiful cherry themed dishes, and met every request we had with great enthusiasm. Exquisite attention to detail was reflected everywhere… from the period house furnishings to table settings and including the unique guest accommodations. Rooms and bathrooms were meticulously clean and comfortable throughout. We all loved the sound of the distant trains, and had fun watching the black squirrels frolicking in the yard. You will not be disappointed if you spend time at this charming B and B. Next time we will visit Starved Rock Park too.

This is an absolute gem! Five stars (six if I could). Spotless rooms, impeccable appointments, unmatched service, locally sourced breakfast at an exceptional price.

I needed a place to stay for the weekend while I was attending a Bonspiel at the local Curling Club and found Cherry Bear through a Google search. The photos on their web page do not do them justice, but often photos never do. This is a gorgeous old home and the owners have made it very welcoming. Sleeping rooms are upstairs and the main floor has a common area where one can read, play instruments or watch TV. The furnishings are very period and comfortable.

Breakfast in the morning was beyond expectations (photo). Banana bread French toast, scrambled eggs, breakfast au gratin potatoes, strawberries covered with yogurt, locally sourced sausage, orange juice, coffee and water. Although I wanted to clean the meal up, it was more than I could (or should) eat. I think Carmen prides herself on the breakfast she provides and well she should. You will not get something like this at a hotel. Unfortunately my second morning required me to be at the club very early. However, I was provided with a "to-go" meal of cinnamon rolls and a "mini" quiche. Coffee included, of course!

I ended up booking a room for 3 consecutive weekends. The Hosts, Carmen and Pete, were very accommodating and it was a pleasure to get to know them. They were available, but not intrusive, and I had several wonderful conversations with them. I have made new friends, and that is the other blessing of this place. If you ever want to stay in Mendota, you would be remiss not to stay here.

Cherry Bear is absolutely beautiful from the inside out. The hosts, Carmen and Peter, were incredibly friendly and helpful! They asked if we (my husband and I) had any dietary restrictions so Carmen could make our breakfast accordingly. Our room was breathtaking and had everything we could have needed (shampoos, soap, makeup remover, etc.). Not to mention the living room / entry way is cozy and artsy. Loved finding this gem, will stay here every time we pass through! I almost forgot to mention their gorgeous backyard. |Thank you Carmen and Peter for an amazing stay.

This was my first time experiencing a bed and breakfast and my expectations were exceeded! The room I booked was exceptionally put together, had everything I could’ve needed, and made for a great night of sleep. The breakfast left me with a full belly and the back yard is incredible. Highly recommend to anyone coming to the area and I will be staying again!

This quiet quaint inn is a hidden gem close to Chicago but worlds away. The hosts are small town charming and accommodating and have left no detail unanswered. If you want to unplug for a few days, jump on the Amtrak and enter a new space. Total relaxation awaits you. If you need to do a little work the WIFI is great. The town has a beautiful history and some good food and drink. Don’t miss out! You wont be disappointed.
