Considering it's Chicago, the room wasn't all that bad. It's fine. In general, I don't have very many issues with the quality of the room. Bed was neatly put together and the TV worked. The remote had tape on the back probably to keep the batteries from falling out. The TV had a ton of stations and even college football games that I don't even get at home. The door has two different ways of locking, which helped me feel safe being someone out of state in Chicago. The younger guy in the office was helpful.
Now with the issues I do have:
There are stairs to get to the upper rooms and those stairs were seriously so nasty. I get that carpet is hard to keep clean, but there were so many mystery stains and gunk on them.
It's really easy to hear other room's TVs unless you have yours up loud. The AC is very loud.
The bathroom honestly didn't feel that clean. The mirror had weird smudges and the frame holding it wanted to collapse. The window had some type of crack in the corners and the ledge in front of it was very dirty. There is no shelving anywhere, not even in the shower. I had little to no space for toothbrush/paste or for my personal shampoo/conditioner/body wash.
I didn't get a picture of it, but the sprinkler in the room was absolutely disgusting. I couldn't tell if it was mold or dust or what, but it was coated in some kind of fuzz.
For some reason, after one night (paid for 2), the two keycards I received stopped working. I had to go to the office to get them reactivated.
You're required to wait to be buzzed in to get into the office and I noticed that there were people that wanted to check in and get their room, but no one was in the office. They were forced to wait outside in the dark until the office guy came back. Not a very good system.

There are not enough parking spaces, so the car has to be parked on the roadside. I chose to check in at night, and there was no one at the front desk for a long time, so I had to wait at the door for 20 minutes. The efficiency was very low, but the room was unexpectedly good, so I gave it three stars for the room.

DO NOT STAY HERE!! BED BUGS!!

shouldn’t have expected much considering it was so cheap. also website says it allows 18+ but when i got there they said i had to be 21 (i’m 20) even though i had already paid for the room. woke up to a BED BUG on my pillow. couldn’t tell anyone because the office was packed and i didn’t want to cause a huge scene. can’t even get an answer from their phone number online it just hangs up so i can’t get a refund.

I had an extremely unpleasant experience during my stay, and even if this is a two-star or three-star establishment, there is absolutely no excuse for the appalling treatment I received. The night check-in staff, an older woman, was shockingly rude—yelling at me, calling me names, and even threatening to cancel my booking without issuing a refund. This is not just bad service—it’s unethical behavior that borders on theft. Guests, regardless of the star rating of a place, deserve basic respect and decency.

Such disgraceful conduct is unacceptable in the hospitality industry, and I strongly advise others to avoid this place. Management must take immediate action to address this toxic behavior, as it reflects poorly on the entire establishment. With such shocking treatment of guests, I wouldn’t be surprised if this place faces closure or serious repercussions. I sincerely hope the management reconsiders keeping someone like this on their team, as her behavior is a detriment to the business and the entire guest experience.

If I could give a 0 I would. This place is the nastiest place I’ve been. The bed sheets were dirty and with hair all over it. The “blanket” was smelly and itchy and the room smelled like mold. We checked out early because I couldn’t stand been on it. Stay away from there.

I’ve stayed here twice before (alone and with my mother) and had no issues! However, this time, I was alone and the man at the front desk was incredibly rude. He would not let me check in because my mother was the one who booked the room for me, and of course, my ID does not match her’s (which they HAVE allowed before, mind you). He REFUSED to talk to her on the phone and refused a refund. I initially offered to call her so he could speak to her and he rejected it. After updating her through text, she called me and he actively turned his head away from the phone. My mom called corporate while I tried to find another hotel and he was being incredibly rude to the lady on the other line, still refusing a refund because apparently it was a “no-show.” It’s been three days and we’re still working on that refund. NEVER staying here again. Rooms are also normally dirty but they were never bad enough that it turned me away completely, just thought I’d add it on top of everything else.

TLDR; stay somewhere else. The Rodeway Inn down the road has always been good to me (so far) and was able to squeeze me in the night the story above happened, thankful for them.

Stayed at this location twice before, at third visit the desk clerk didn't believe that my ID was mine. Didn't get his name - middle aged gentleman with greying hair, beard, glasses. I had a beard in the photo and was clean shaven when i arrived which seemed to confuse him. The way he resolved this was by asking me every personal detail on my ID, and when I got all of them right, it apparently didn't matter anyway. He wouldn't believe that it was my ID and threatened to call the police if i couldnt provide a second photo id, also refusing to give me the room I'd reserved. Luckily i had my work id in my car, although the photo was from around the same time so I still had a beard, but that didnt seem to matter anymore. It's worth noting that part of my own job involves looking at people's IDs for security reasons, and after doing that a lot you find that people often look a bit different from the photo on their license in certain ways - like beards, weight, age, and haircuts. A random employee barring guests based on a sniff-test of their ID photos is horribly inappropriate - unless I were clearly a wildly different person there was no justification for it. I don't know what kind of bias or poor training he was operating on, but they need to sort that out.

This hotel was beyond frustrating, stay away!
I booked 5 nights but had to move out after the second. There was pretty much no hot water in the shower. On top of that, AC was noisy making it hard to sleep. Plus other smaller issues - the room was tiny with no space for clothes/things, the window broken. Being unable to shower was the biggest problem. Upon my multiple requests they did not address the problem, they kept inventing excuses about manager being away and that I should "try again tomorrow". Finally I had to move to a different hotel and they promised a partial refund for the 3 unused nights, which never came. Worst customer service in the country.
