If you need a bit of space, this is a better option than most air b&b’s or hotels in the area. The common areas are beautiful, the attached fenced garden is massive, and the rooms are exceedingly comfortable. The garden is absolutely perfect for those traveling with a dog. The bed is by far the most comfortable bed I’ve slept on in a hotel in Evanston. Each room has a small kitchen and laundry. Hardwood floors, updated bathrooms, and all white linens make the space feel fresh and clean. The staff were extremely friendly, and parking is free. The decor in the hallways and rooms are a bit odd (the pictures and curtains specifically) but knowing the history of the space it makes sense. That said I would take those curtains down! The room was warm when we arrived but we were able to cool it down pretty quickly. We left before breakfast but the dining space was beautiful. There only seemed to be a handful of guests on a random Sunday in March. It’s more expensive than either Hilton in Evanston but it’s much nicer with many more free amenities. Hopefully more people will discover this hotel and it will continue to be an option moving forward in the future!

The cafe/restaurant is incredible. Amazing food open all day (as of recently for lunch and dinner always for breakfast before). Carmen the main waitstaff is delightful and incredibly professional. I cannot recommend this place enough!! The service is incredible and professional. The rooms are top tier fitted with everything you need for a short or extended stay.

We truly enjoyed our stay at this lovely boutique hotel, full of unique art and artifacts. The staff could not have been nicer. The room was clean and well-equipped. And the location was walkable and convenient to restaurants and stores. The best part is that the breakfasts included with our stay were absolutely delicious! We were expecting the typical continental breakfast with stale pastries and burnt coffee. Instead they included delicious Greek scrambles, pancakes, croissants and marble breads. The chef told us he once owned multiple restaurants in Chicago and only uses the freshest ingredients. I would stay at the hotel just to enjoy his cooking alone! If I had one complaint, it's that the fold out mattress my son stayed on was pretty thin. To make it more comfortable I had to ask for multiple blankets and layer them on top of one another. A good mattress pad would solve the problem. But overall, we would definitely stay here again! It was the highlight of our trip.

The staff were extremely accommodating and helpful in every sense. Breakfast was excellent in a wonderful setting. Room was passable: very tight fit, closet small and shallow but passable, bedside table on only one side of bed and chair jammed where small table would fit. Bathroom small but passable. Given the relatively inexpensive price, the value could be seen as reasonable. One major problem with our King Suite was that the air conditioning in the room was pouring out hot air so the engineer had to turn off the heat valve completely and open the cooling valve completely. I suspect this problem has been corrected.

Beautiful lobby and recently renovated rooms. Several rooms with washing machines/dishwashers. Some of the renovated rooms a are a bit on the small side, but manageable for most. We had an infant and hotel was very accommodating with the crib.

The room was nice. The breakfast was good. But they are not upfront about pricing. Somehow from the time I booked to the time we stayed it went from 120 for the room to 147. I spoke to someone at the desk. Even though they are sorry I wasn't informed of that. They didn't offer any reimbursement, not that she had the authority too. Just seems crooked.

My partner and I recently stayed at the Gem and had a wonderful experience.
The location is perfect for our needs. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating.
Our room was clean, comfortable, and modern.
The complimentary breakfast at the Time and Glass Museum right across the street from the hotel was fantastic.
I highly recommend the Gem Hotel for anyone looking for a pleasant stay in the area!

Highly recommend the Gem and the adjacent Clock and Stained Glass Museum! The staff at the hotel were attentive and gracious. The rooms well appointed. Breakfast I. The Tiffany room was lovely each morning. Will be back again!
