Mt McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge - Trapper Creek, Alaska

We went here for one night as part of a Princess Cruise and Land Tour. Very nice large lodge in the Alaska Wilderness. We ate at the 20320 Restaurant and our waiter was friendly and the food was good. The rooms were comfortable and clean. We took a horse drawn covered Wagon ride with D & S wagon rides and really enjoyed it. Steve and his wife were so friendly and nice. Loved the smores, reindeer and panning for gold. We also saw a show at the lodge theatre showing a collection of panoramic photos of the northern lights taken over a persons lifetime. Fantastic! We also saw a Park Ranger talk about bears. Very informational. Beautiful scenery and grounds. We really enjoyed our stay here.

We enjoyed our stay at McKinley Lodge other than the rain. It rained almost the entire time. Mt. McKinley/Denali wasn't visible the entire time as it was cloud covered. We did enjoy the aurora borealis show that they have in the theater. That worked out great because we didn't get the see the aurora borealis when we were in Fairbanks due to rain. We had a great time playing cards with our friends in the guest services building.

ROOMS were very comfortable and well decorated.
This was our first visit to this GORGEOUS LODGE and we will likely return in the future.

Upon check-in a young lady named Haley was very curt and rude.

The front desk folks should at the VERY LEAST be welcoming and friendly. Haley was neither of these. She is NOT a good FIRST CONTACT, to be greeting guests upon check-in to this fantastic lodge.

Nice big fire place in common area, lots of seating, with big windows for beautiful views of the mountains and Mt. McKinley.

On site restaurants, serving delicious local cuisine.

Really disappointed. Spread out campus style property with parking far from rooms so takes a bit to get around/load-unload luggage. The casual restaurant was definitely the worst meal I had in Alaska, very frozen low quality factory food and terrible wait staff, got ignored for an exceptional amount of time and prices were way high for the quality. The only thing good about the spot is if it's clear you can see Denali from the welcome area patio but they blast loud obnoxious pop music which makes it hard to actually enjoy the area. Do not recommend unless you're stuck there due to a cruise. Wish I'd stayed somewhere more charming in Talkeetna which is an hour away.

We loved this place. Comfortable rooms, comfy beds. Nice bathrooms. Good staff to help you . Very nice shuttle service to nearby town. Though restaurants have limited vegetarian choices. Maighan in 20320 restaurant was outstanding in service, speed and smile. We had kind of rainy and cloudy days, but the stay was enjoyable.

This place is in the middle of nowhere and a good distance from anything. It didn’t help that they lost power when we arrived. There were several 100 additional guest that arrived after us. If you’ll do some searching you’ll find this happens quite a bit over the past 10 years. They have no backup generator. They’ll make salmon patties on the grill and some rice and a chicken breast and charge $15. Many have commented they have stayed overnight with no power and Princess offered no adjustment to their bill. Good luck if you’re staying there

We arrived around 3:30 PM, were given our room key, opened the door to find the room not yet cleaned from previous guests. Beds unmade, bathroom in disarray and a urine soaked towel on the upholstered bench. One of our party was very ill so we requested a rush on room cleaning, and the removal of the piece of furniture. Three and a half hours later, we were able to use the room. I spoke to a very unapologetic, if not outright rude, front desk person who placed the blame for the situation squarely on us, advising we had booked a room in the “discounted season” and should not have expected good service. She scoffed at my claim of a sick guest. I suggest this employee be sent to be retrained at the Denali Wilderness Lodge where, the night before, our room was also not clean when we checked in. Apologies were made, room was ready in 20 minutes and we all received a gift certificate for the inconvenience. I understand staffing issues happen, probably more frequently Alaska. Management needs to step up, accept responsibility, and do more to accommodate their paying guests!

Location is the biggest attraction here, and they make the most of it. There is a huge outdoor deck with beautiful views of Denali weather permitting. You can sign up for messages when the mountain or aurora is visible. They have nature presentations, trails, and a tree house on the property. Lots of flowers as well. You can shop and eat at the lodge or at other businesses across the highway.
