The place is overcrowded. One of the guides repeatedly told me they had 13 boats but only had 12 good fishing spots on the river. They advertise hundreds of miles of river to fish but only fish probably less than 10 miles. Huge amount of boat traffic up and down the river, mostly their own boats. Constantly ran out of bread, soda, chips, etc. Breakfast and dinner were good meals though. Owner drinks quite a bit, not an atmosphere I would want to take my kids to.

Have you ever wanted to go out to last American frontier and fish the rivers of Alaska for salmon, trout, dolly varden, and Arctic grayling? Want to fish a river system where the Lodge that you're fishing is the only one there? That place is the Goodnews River Lodge! I have been there almost 20 times.

Floated the Goodnews in 2022. Was harassed by the guides on the lower river. Especially by a guide with long red hair I beleive his name was kyle. We were camping on a gravel bar about a 1/4 mile above their camp. It was a great hole, but they didn't want us there. The guides would intentionally run their boats over our hole. Best hole on the river GPS location 59.1413, -161.46326. I'd camp there again just for spite.

Good news river is a true wilderness, unspoiled by the civilized world and one of the last remaining gems in the sport of fly fishing. The fishing is clearly one of the best places in the world to salmon fish, and frankly the fishing is so good that that is the easy part . The logistics of getting to the lodge and feeling totally taken care of in comfort and hospitality is what struck me the most . To operate and run a camp in such a remote location is an enormous task. Mike Gorton and his wife Dawn and their team of Guides and staff at the lodge do a truly remarkable job. Getting there is it in adventure in and of itself. Flying over the beautiful Alaskan snow topped mountain range and arriving on the coast of the Bering sea and finally arriving to the comforts of the lodge and a warm bowl of soup was an epic start for our adventure. You get a sense that you have arrived in a destination few others Have ever been to and have left the busy modern world behind. The accommodations were comfortable and unpretentious, welcoming and appropriate for a wilderness experience. Anything more would have felt out of place and inappropriate in the midst of such raw natural beauty. Thank you for not having an infinity pool! ||From the first night of home-cooked barbecue to Mexican night and even roast beef the food was absolutely outstanding. I’ve been on a lot of destinations trips and by far this was the best food I’ve ever had. In fact it was so good our group often found ourselves talking about some of the great culinary experiences we’ve had traveling in places like France or Italy. It is no doubt that those conversations were brought on by the fantastic dinners we enjoyed every night. ||I must say the food and fishing were only topped by the oratory brilliance of owner, guide, and general of his wilderness army Mike Gorton. For years I had heard about these speeches that book-end the good news river experience but I must say it’s almost worth the trip itself to hear them delivered in person. It is clear that Mike and his staff have enormous passion for what they do and take great pride in making sure our trip to Goodnews river was world class. Mikes speeches are legendary and perfectly delivered with love humor and heartfelt appreciation for all aspects of our trip. ||I had always dreamed of an Adventure in Alaska and I am so happy that I was able to experience everything that surrounds and creates the Goodnews River Lodge. The fishing was world class, the guiding was superb and professional but what makes this lodge and experience stand out is the overwhelming love and dedication that the goodnews River Lodge family takes in the overall product. ||I am sincerely grateful for having had the opportunity to visit Goodnews River Lodge and I can firmly attest that this lodge should be on every serious anglers bucket list! ||To Mike, Dawn and the entire staff of the good news River Lodge I want to thank all of you on behalf of my group of Anglers and say we thoroughly enjoyed our adventure and look forward to seeing you again in the future.||Sincerely,||Will Benson||WorldANGLING

Our group did an unguided float trip down the goodnews and had planned to book a stay at the lodge the following year until we got on the river.. the goodnews river guides treated us poorly and almost hit our rafts several times with their river boats (we had right of way floating downstream). They even had the audacity to flip us off (when their clients weren’t looking).
Needless to say they lost business from 15 costumers for the next season. The lack of respect was enough for me to write a review. Consider this next time you’re booking a trip with this lodge.

Fantastic lodge, guides and fishing. My trip there was an unforgettable experience and the best week of fishing I've experienced anywhere. Slayed Kings, Chums, Pinks, Sockeye, Dolly Varden, Grayling, and Trout on fly rods while enjoying a very comfortable camp with first class staff, food and accommodations.

It's really difficult to tell someone just how special this place is. 450 miles from Anchorage on the edge of the Bering sea, the fish here are as fresh and full of fight as any I've ever experienced. Only seven miles up from Goodnews Bay, the fish come in "chrome" with sea lice still clinging to them. ||If you are a true fisherman, you will probably catch more fish in a week here than at any other place you would fish for a month. This place is a fisherman's dream. Where else can you have three forks and over 400 miles of river and be the only lodge on the river?||From the start of the season through July the river is full of monster kings busting your tackle followed by chum and sockeye . Then there is the wall-to-wall silver run of August and September. 50 fish day are not something you think might happen...it happens everyday here with silvers. ||I've fished a number of places in Alaska, all of which were what I consider "good lodges" but after I made my first trip to Goodnews River Lodge, I decided that this is the "Best of the Best." Truly a Fishing Paradise!

This is a great camp to stay and even better to fish at. The location could not be more remote witch is a pluss. The only camp on the river and its a cool one. The staff could not be friendlier. They prepared 3 great meals everyday and took very good care of us.
