This property is quite old and hasn't been refurbished for a long time. The hotel reminded us of many we have stayed in Europe. The reception staff were welcoming and helpful. They clearly took pride in assisting their customers. Our room and bathroom were very clean. Yes, the furniture was mismatched and worn. But everything worked and the bed was comfortable. In spite of being on the front side of the building, the room was quiet. We really enjoyed our stay and will return when we go back to Oak Park. ||||The location was excellent.||||It is just a couple blocks off Oak Park's main street which has many excellent restaurant options. We ate at the hotel's restaurant one evening and thoroughly enjoyed it as well. The food and service were exceptional.||||The Frank Lloyd Wright House and Studio were about four blocks away - a lovely walk through one section of the Historic District, a one square mile of beautiful homes from the late 1800s and early 1900s.||||Oak Park is on the 'Green Line' train route which goes into Downtown. We had been forwarned that between Oak Park and Downtown Chicago it is not a safe area. Obviously this is not the hotel's fault, but we chose to use a car share service to get to/from Downtown Chicago at the start and end of our stay rather than take the train. We walked everywhere while in Oak Park and always felt safe. It is a very walkable area.

If you want the true experience of living in the heart of Oak Park, the Write Inn is the place to stay. You will be staying in an older apartment, like so many in Oak Park. They're charming but sometimes the everything isn't as fancy or up-to-date as brand new. I was fine with that, except that the bed was rather hard. The room had many amenities: refrigerator, coffeemaker, nice soaps, etc. However, the bathroom is a step up, as others have noted, so you have to be aware whenever you walk in. The restaurant here is wonderful. Highly recommended for breakfast. Free parking is available, but it's a few blocks away. Right near the hotel is the Hemingway house, many Frank Lloyd Wright homes, Unity Temple, and the cool downtown Oak Park. If you enjoy walking, this is a good hotel.

The staff is friendly but the hotel is out of date. I understand that they are trying to preserve it but the elevator is janky and the stairs are creepy. over all I had trouble falling asleep, the art work in the room as very creepy. It was cute at first and then as I made myself to my room it became creepier. Don't come here if you have anxiety or claustrophobia (halls are very small). The floor of the shower was also sticky, the only reason I'm giving it 3 stars is for the nice front desk people.

Room was the smallest hotel room I've ever had. It was also laid out so it did not use the small space efficiently. The bed was too soft and the one window was too small. The kicker was that the step up to the bathroom was a serious trip hazard as it was approximately 5 inches. Older folks definitely do not want to rent a room here as it would be very dangerous in the middle of the night. Parking was free but you had to walk 3 blocks to park the car. No valet service. The restaurant/bar looked nice but it is not affiliated with the hotel.

Our experience was good. It's an old building and the rooms are small, but it seems pretty well taken care of. It's location is great. The neighborhood is nice and they're quite close to the green line so getting into the city is very easy. The hotel will also pay for your parking in one of the city's parking garages (only a few blocks away, by the green line). There wasn't anything mind blowing about the experience, but it was nice and I would go back.

Absolutely loved our stay at the Write inn. Upon check in they greeted us and explained parking, etc. The room was very spacious. Hotel had a nice feel to it and fits the neighborhood. Would definitely stay here again if we visit Chicago again. Didn't get chance to explore the hemmingway house and others in the immediate area but the local shops and eateries are Excellent

We visited over the July 4th weekend. We loved the location. There were lots of festivities in the area and were were able to walk to them. We also liked the proximity to the Green Line train. Lots of shops and restaurants to choose from. We especially liked the hotel. It was small and the cozy. The staff, Albert and Arthur were excellent! We plan to stay there when we return to the area.
