I was in the Illinois community on family business and could not get a hotel/motel accomodation within nearby Freeport due to a TV's Extreme Home Makeover show taping. I had not stayed in bed & breakfast homes before, but Standish House was in my home town and highly recommended by my family. I had a spacious and economical room that shared a full bathroom on the second floor of the bed & breakfast. There is a definite historical theme to the entire house based on the Standish family's descent from England/Scotland and through the Pilgrim's Plymouth Colony. The hostess served a terrific breakfast each morning of my 7 day stay at the Standish House. They join you for breakfast with delightful conversation about world travel and adventure. It's an easy drive to all the Northwest Illinois towns and venues. Liked it so much I will return next month when I attend to more family business.

In Lanark for a family gathering and staying at the Standish House was one of the best places I have ever stayed. Mr. & Mrs. Standish made you feel right at home---yet you had your privacy. The History of the Standish Home was of great interest they shared with us, and can't forget the food which was also delicious. Hope to go back again and plan to stay there. If you are in Lanark I highly recommend staying there.

We have never been treated so royally! The entire house should be featured in a prominent magazine. Standish House is both tastefull and elegant, yet warm and inviting. The history shared, the wonderful artwork and antiques, the 5 star service given -I don't think that anyone could do more for their guests! Their prices and breakfast get their own rave review. 🙂 (Beloit, WI)
