We just love the Southern Hotel. We’ve been coming here for over 20 years. Mike and Cathy are great hosts. Breakfast was wonderful. This trip we did take in the newer Antique Mall, very nice! Also the Brick House has great chili!

The owners are very welcoming! First thing they surprise you with a treat and give you a tour of the house. We stayed in the Quilt Room on the third floor in the summer, 90 plus outside, and were very comfortable! The whole place is charming and full of historical details! The breakfast is delicious! The hosts are gracious.
This is a great place to visit and get some local history while you relax and enjoy a quiet atmosphere. You can almost feel what it would have been like 200 years ago. We will be back!

We have stayed in many, many B&B’s but this has to be in our top five of the best of the best! A beautifully restored very OLD Southern Hotel. The bed and breakfast offers beautiful rooms appointed with antiques and southern charm. There is a nine foot 19th century billiards table downstairs that guests are welcome to play pool on. The saloon offers board games and many good books. A charming garden in the back is perfect for after dinner cocktails and cigars. The breakfast will have you wanting to stay another night! Cathy and a Mike make your stay most enjoyable! One other very, very, important thing. The house blend hazelnut coffee that Mike blends and serves has got to be the best coffee I’ve ever had the pleasure to drink. You can buy a pound, whole bean or ground to take home. We purchased a pound and now wish we had bought five pounds. It’s that good! This bed and breakfast is highly recommended.

I treated my husband to a few days at the Southern Hotel B&B. We just loved this place. If you appreciate great lovingly restored old buildings and their history in the community than this is the right B&B for you. Our Captains room was so quaint and cozy. I would re-book the same room next time. Even though it was in the middle of July we were cool and cozy despite it being an 1800's building. Mike and Cathy were wonderful hosts and could answer any question you could come up with. We were greeted with warm chocolate chip cookies and the breakfasts were 5 star. I can't forget the garden outback that had a winding brick path that led to a vine covered trellis with twinkle lights that lite up the swing. Very romantic! The path winds past another swing on the way back to the front. The town itself is very charming with all of the old restored buildings dating back to the late 1700's to 1800's. Several restaurants close by including the Anvil and The Brick House were excellent places to eat supper and within a block of the B&B. The town is very flat in the historic district so we were able to enjoy an evening of walking and bike riding. I just can't say enough!!! Lovely Place!!! Bob and Jacki

This B&B is one of the nicest Trophywife and I have ever stayed in. The first thing you should do if you stay here is look at the albums containing the "before" pictures of what the place looked like when Mike bought it. You will be duly impressed after you realize the work that went into making it the building it is now. Considering that the original structure was built in 1790, it is remarkable to still be standing. If you are a history buff like we are, then talking with Mike will be a special treat. He is a fount of knowledge about the building and it's history as well as the surrounding area. He and his present wife Cathy are truly wonderful hosts. All of the rooms are attractive and furnished nicely. One word of caution, make sure you know what your bathroom situation will be. Several of the rooms have the toilet and bathtub located in a corner of the room and not in a separate private area. This could make things a bit uncomfortable if you are not traveling with a spouse. We had a room with a private bath. The only thing I did not like about it, was that my 6'3" frame trying to take a shower in the clawfoot tub with a plastic liner around it made me feel claustrophobic. In spite of this, the water pressure was good and the room was so beautiful, that I could work around that. The garden in the back is lovely and in the evening they turn on some beautiful twinkle lights that make it very romantic. Cathy is an excellent cook and our breakfasts were very delicious. Ste Genevieve is a quaint little town and the Southern Hotel is ideally situated right downtown easily within walking distance to the historic homes. I would recommend this B&B to anyone.

Perfect every time! We had the Quilt Room this time on the third floor and there aren't elevators so if you have an issue climbing stairs, you should ask for a second floor room. We loved the gardens before dark and after... after dark, we were able to enjoy a romantic stroll in candle light. So beautiful! The breakfast was, as usual, so delicious and we very much enjoyed talking with other guests as well as the owners, Mike and Kathy. Mike is so knowlegable about the history as well!

The Southern Hotel is an exceptional place to stay. Mike and Cathy are a wealth of information and were so very nice and pleasant. The hotel's decorations are cozy and interesting. Breakfast was delicious and it was wonderful to sit down and have a leisurely hot meal. We stayed with two other couples and they were equally as pleased. We would stay again!
