UPDATE April 7, 2024:
Still 5/5 stars. Community Center building has gotten some new upgrades, looks great. We didn't see the old porto-potty; not sure if there are restrooms available? Lots of kids were playing on the playground, and running in the wide open green grass. Some families were having picnics. So happy this public park was saved, not sold away or paved over!

Original Review:
Big wide open green space. Peaceful for a walk, or to sit and read a book. Community Center is solid simple 70-year old building donated with labor and fundraising from local citizens. It is booked on average more than 300 times per YEAR. This venue hosted more than 40,000 people in 2022 alone. Many citizens and visitors use this Community Center every year for birthday parties, celebrations of life, and family reunions. It is also used for Church, AA meetings, and voting. Large groups of people (mostly elders) dance here twice a week! Dancing is open to the public, $7. per person Thursday and Friday nights. The surrounding park and playground are publicly owned by the citizens in the City of Northport. A playground, a small gazebo, and some picnic tables are just outside. Trees are large enough here now to provide a nice buffer between Hwy 69 / Lurleen Wallace Blvd and the residential areas ALL around this park at the entrance to downtown Northport. PARA does a wonderful job running this Community Center. It is their 2nd most rented facility in Tuscaloosa County if I am not mistaken. Yes the City of Northport needs to ditch the porto-potty sitting in the parking lot and provide an actual restroom. But there are nice clean restrooms inside the Community Center-- available if you attend a function there. Hope that Northport City modernizes this park and expands the playground (needs some shade!). A walking trail like Tuscaloosa has at Monnish Park, Snow Hinton Park, and Tuscaloosa River Walk would be wonderful. Stepping stones or plaques telling Northport history-- including the story of Native American Indians who used to live here. More trees and flowers, maybe some water spots for doggies to drink. Benches where folks can rest and chat. Maybe a nice big gazebo like at Tuscaloosa Government Plaza for local music acts and family movies. And a splashpad would be great like at Tuscaloosa Riverwalk and Annette Shelby Park! Even though this park and Community Center need some updating and modernization, I still give it 5/5 stars. If you are looking for big fancy expensive venue-- this isn't it. If you are looking for a nice size big open space, clean with folding chairs and tables, high-quality very functional old simple building, affordable to rent and easy to clean-- this is great! Highly recommend.

Wade did a great job in checking out everything in this older home. He talked with my buyers and made them comfortable with their home purchase. I will recommend him again.
