My husband and I booked this place as we were looking for a short getaway. It was time to get away from the stress and busyness! This place fit the bill. Is very conveniently located near many interesting things to see and do in Arthur Illinois and surrounding towns. It was beastly hot when we were there and the air conditioning worked great! The downstairs Garden Room is spacious and has its own bathroom. This place would be ideal if you had multiple couples wanting to spend time together in one place. I like that it is not attached to the main house so you feel like you have a house to yourself. A couple of suggestions for those who plan to stay there are to bring a cooler with your own water soda Etc. Also bring your own ice. If you are looking for a place to serve you a hearty breakfast each morning this is not what you are looking for. However it is nice to be able to do breakfast on your own time table as Marsha leaves yummy Amish made baked goods as well as other items for breakfast. Honestly, we were so tired of eating around there because the food is so great that it was probably good we didn't have a full breakfast. It was very clean and served our needs well.

We can recommend Marsha's without reservation. We were lucky enough to book the morning of the night we wanted to stay - what a find! From taking the booking to the time with left Marsha's care for us was excellent. Her interest in gardening and arts made us feel we were staying with a friend. The real unexpected treat was for Jeff and his barber quartet to arrive and give us a private performance. ||||Located in a quiet street, we had a very restful night before continuing on our way.

The bed n breakfast was recommended to me by the bed n breakfast I use to stay in before it closed. This is a beautiful property with great rooms inside. Finishings are very nice and the use of the kitchen is great too. Marsha, the owner, is very nice and helpful. ||While some may not like the fact that the breakfast part of the bed n breakfast is a choice of cold or hot cereal, fruit, and or yogurt fixed by you, we loved it, because we bring our own food with us and make everything ourselves, which was very easy because of the kitchen access. Prices were fair, everything was clean, and there was a nice area to sit outside.||Now for my concerns||The bed was beautiful, but hard as cement. In fact, it was so hard my hips hurt from sleeping on it. My next concern is the most serious: security. The layout of the place was there were two doors, both opened into the kitchen, there is a door in the kitchen that leads to the loft and the loft's bathroom in downstairs just off the kitchen, which I'd say is a throw back to 80 years ago when many hotels had a shared bathroom down the hall, not very convenient for the loft guests. What is most serious is neither the loft nor the downstairs garden room has locks on the doors except on the inside. This means you can't lock your room door if you leave leaving your valuables insecure. Also, the doors that lead to the outside were at times left unlocked, meaning people from the outside could just stroll in and gain access to unlocked rooms. I realize it is Amish country, but still to not make sure guest's valuables can be secured is nothing less than negligence. We had to tote our luggage with us everywhere we went, which was not very convenient. ||Since they don't take credit cards you will have to make sure you take your cash or checkbook. If they fix the security issues and replace that hard as rock mattress, it is easily an excellent accommodation.

We are here now and have to leave tomorrow. Have spent three nights here. Came mainly for the cheese festival. Have the garden room. The garden room is the best as far as I am concerned in the building. Everything seems clean. Air is great. Beds are good. Nice neighborhood to walk around. If in town again, I would love to stay here again.

I've now stayed on two occasions at Marsha's Vineyard -- both times during festivals in nearby Arcola -- and it has been my "oasis." With its many amenities (including modern plumbing!) and sweet country decor, Marsha's is a wonderful place to relax, re-coup, and relish the beautiful mid-western surroundings. The owners, Marsha and Jeff, are delightful, friendly folks, who keep the kitchen well-stocked with fresh juice, milk, coffee, tea, yogurts -- and luscious, to-die-for Amish pastries. Be sure to check out the two drawers full of videos and DVD's of movie classics, and save time for some swing-sitting on the back patio, under the grape arbor.
