Great service. The barista was polite, professional and welcoming. Very good coffee, I had their regular Drip. No extra fee when paying with a credit card. They have an office space for people to get work done.

Small cozy shop just across the street from portage Park. Brewing passion house beans and serving west town bakery pastries, its a comfy spot to stop in.

There's a large patio that is open over the summer, a working fire place, and even a little conference room that can be used for remote meetings.

Very friendly and cute place to work, study, read or just hang out. They have the usual coffee menu. The cool thing is that their drip, in addition to great medium roast taste, is bottomless, so I guess that compensates for inflation! Curbside parking is free -- a other plus. There is both inside and outside patio seating.

Nice spot to get a hearty brunch / breakfast with plentiful options. I had their St. Patrick's Day special, an Irish Cream Latte. Good place to meet with friends and to do work with a cozy fireplace!

Authentic and Exceptional Coffee in Chicago

As a coffee lover and someone who brews specialty imported coffee at home, I can confidently say this coffee shop is a true gem in Chicago. The espresso here tastes exactly as it should: authentic, perfectly balanced in body, aroma, and flavor. The color is spot on, just as a proper espresso should look—none of that burnt or bland taste you find elsewhere.

This is the only place in the city where the coffee truly tastes like real coffee. No unnecessary bitterness, no "waste-like" flavor—it’s fresh and crafted to perfection. Every cup speaks of quality and freshness, which, for me, is priceless.

The atmosphere is another highlight: small and cozy, yet with a warm vibe that makes you want to linger and savor every moment. If you’re a true coffee enthusiast, this is a must-visit spot. Here, coffee isn’t just a drink; it’s an experience. Highly recomendded!

I'm trying a new North/West -side cafe every Friday. My third visit is to Portage Grounds.

This cafe is such a little gem! My cafe a lait was tasty and the baristas were so sweet. My bagel and cream cheese wasn't great, but at least it wasn't expensive.

The decor was so cute with a fireplace and christmas tree and I thought it was really cool that they had a conference room to work from. There was a ton of seating that's not useful now, but I'll have to come back in the summer to sit outside.

Love their lattes! And checking out their specialty/seasonal options too. If you're looking for food, they don't have a lot of options, and I've noticed if I go in the afternoon they're usually out of pastries by then. But definitely a nice place to get together with someone for coffee, read, or do work. Their patio in the summer is a perk!

Portage Grounds is my favorite local coffee shop! The staff are awesome, the coffee is great, and the shop itself is welcoming. They have a cozy couch spot by the fireplace, individual window stools if you prefer to work solo, and even a conference room if you want to hang with a group. Cute little outdoor patio as well. Great location. Can't speak on the food as I've never eaten there.
